I was born in 1983 on a military base in Frankfurt, Germany. My family and I relocated to Alabama when I was still quite small, and it was there that I grew up in a small town called Boaz. I worked for my grandparents at their independent automotive parts retailer from the age of 14 through graduate school, except for a short stint with a large book retailer. After many years, multiple majors, and a two-year period when I dropped out of college and traveled with a rock band as their videographer, I finally earned a Bachelor of Arts, English Literature degree from Auburn University in December of 2010. In the Fall of 2011, I enrolled at the University of Alabama in Huntsville to pursue a Master of Arts, English Literature degree, and a certificate in Technical Writing. I also met my wife, Courtney, while I was in graduate school.
We decided to move to New York City in 2015. I was offered a job as a technical writer in Manhattan, and I happily accepted. I have worked as either a technical writer or technical content strategist for companies based in NYC ever since. We spent five wonderful years in NYC, living in Brooklyn, and working in Manhattan. We truly loved New York, but during the summer of 2020, we decided that we wanted a change of pace, and we moved to Colorado.
We now live in Colorado Springs, CO, with our two chihuahuas, Max and Midna, and our two troublesome cats, Ned and Catlyn Stark. When I am not writing (either for work or fun), you can usually find me playing one of my guitars, playing videogames (usually one of the Final Fantasy or Assassin's Creed games, Rocket League, or No Man's Sky), spending time with Courtney and the animals and probably watching something British like the Great British Bake Off or Downton Abbey, or somewhere outside, exploring our beautiful new home state of Colorado.
Books and story-telling are two things that have been a part of my family for a long, long time. I come from a long line of story-tellers. Some of them were published; most of them are remembered through the stories we tell about them. I began writing at a young age, mostly for myself or for projects throughout my primary/secondary and formal educations. I let many things get in the way of writing after I left graduate school and moved to New York City, but there was always the idea for a story that kept finding its way into the back of my mind. I would always say, "Not now, you're not ready." I'm ready now.
Come along and join me on this journey to write and publish my first novel.
I hope to build a strong community here through sharing as much as possible about the processes I undertake and my experiences while writing this novel. I know I can't share everything for obvious reasons, but I do want to be as transparent as I can about what goes into writing a full-length novel, including all of the ups and downs, the ins and outs, and the highs and lows. And I hope that you, dear reader, enjoy the journey alongside me and, in the end, we shall have a completed work that we can all share.
